Unlike Stone, Morey has seen the 2nd round in the past 5 years.

Rebuild the Rockets to first round cannon fodder?

Name one successful team that has embraced midrange in this era.

this is just a 5th grade level analysis of his tenure here. People knew presti was a good gm before he won a championship. You take for granted that we just had a top 3 player. How did we get that without tanking? It took many trades where we gained a small amount of incremental value each time. Then after acquiring enough value, he cashed in on harden. He makes mistakes as every great gm does. He fixes them quickly as every great gm does.

Haha. Nope. Very much intentional since he forced the Rwb trade and kicked out Morey in favor of stone. His mistakes continue to compound.

durants fault? We obviously missed our moment and the following year fell apart as a team. You can’t blame the gm for everything. Players have personalities that can’t be predicted with certainty. If you look at every one of his trades, signings and draft selections and just assign GOOD or BAD, the good far outweighs the bad. His hit rate is up there with Presti. He has his cons of course but as a gm, he is lightyears better than Stone. Some people are just starting to realize this

Daryl was charged with the seemingly impossible task of reloading on the run, no rebuild...with all the margin of error....and competing with/beating one of the greatest dynasties of all time. And, as far as I'm concerned, he did it. It took Adam Silver and a CP3 injury to change history. Daryl put us in position to win it all. MDA, Harden, et al...

Ownership forced the Westbrook trade on him.

In Philly, he was boxed in with a superstar in Embiid who was perpetually injured.

DM the GM is light years ahead of Stone and his boys.

I'd love to see Stone AND Ime fired, and the Wizard given free rein.
    But, it'll never happen.

You may have a point if Morey, like Presti, won a championship with the Sixers. Did he?

Morey has not even sniffed a championship. He’s accomplished nothing.

Morey’s only sin was believing in losers like Harden and Joel. If he has one actual winner to built around he would be ok

I was a big fan of Morey when he first became GM, would love to have a younger visionary that fits with todays NBA, but lately you can tell he cares less about putting in the work for his job, you can feel the desperation in him to get a ring at any long term cost to a franchise. I liked the old Morey who would always maintain flexibility, the CP3 trade where he said we need to increase our risk profile was the beginning of a new Morey. Im not sure if these types of decisions are due to pressure from ownership wanting to win now, but you can def see a major change in his approach.

I think he would still be a far better talent evaluator and negotiator than Stone, so if he is brought back I would be hopeful.

Embiid forced him to sign Paul George, so he was past the point of taking advice from players at the time of the McCain trade, doesn't justify the stupidity of the trade but Morey is a notorious facilitator of ducking the luxury tax, pretty sure thats on his cv

That is precisely why it was a collaboration of ownership and him.

They asked him to duck the tax.

This is the biggest issue with Morey, that he still carries this same mentality. It hampers his ability to team build because he thinks only the superstars are worth taking care off and the role players are interchangeable pieces. I doubt he still values chemistry as well which is another flaw in his way of running a team. It was fun years under Morey and I credit what he brought to the table at a time when the NBA was not about analytics. However, once teams started implementing analytics into their equation, Morey was slowly left behind since those other teams also valued chemistry and team building as opposed to "get 3 superstars fill in the rest" mentality.

It's more so the way he makes players feel like assets instead of people. I think Stone has done a good job of changing that culture. Not saying Morey doesn't have his strengths but it got a little toxic after a while. Not to mention his obsession with small ball. Got sick and tired of drafting under sized dudes.
