Why would they do it though? Easier to just pick the #1 let AD and Trae act as the crutches for their youngsters and vets to learn from and in a few years they're probably already ahead of our rebuild (as awful as that is to contemplate.)

I would make a hard push with the Clips to give up #5 for KD since it appears they are gonna try to do the two timelines thing with Kawhi. Would be willing to throw in additional assets. I think u have a ton of guard options at that pick, but I’d run to the podium for Darius Acuff Jr. We need a bucket getter and a ball handler. He’s elite at both. I’m not worried about the fit/size with Reed because Reed can play off ball and Reed hasn’t done enough to prove he’s our point guard of the future. If we want to elevate the shooting/scoring of the young core, adding Acuff would change that trajectory.

My theoretical KD trade possibilities 1. TWolves KD + DFS For Randle + Reid + Shannon + #28 Wolves dump some salary and change a terrible playoff performer in Randle for one the think might get them over the hump. They also clear out around $3M in salary. Rockets need to find a home for Randle, and none of the pieces are "win now" or "great fit". It is really a bet on youth OR making another move [ie Alpy out for a semi-star] 2. Warriors KD For Butler + #11 I highly doubt the Warriors entertain the idea. But a pick and a bad contract from a team who thinks they are close to winning it all is our best KD trade option. 3. Pistons KD For Stewart, Robinson, Holland, #21 and a future first. The Pistons are possibly one of the most likely trade candidates. Again, there is no bonafide star coming back, just some packaging, and potential. The picks might be something, but might not. Ron Holland has a slim chance of being something, but the door is closing on that chance. I think in all those scenarios we are worse off on immediate results, and move towards a mid seed team which is banking on internal growth, and someone to break out in some way. The most likely next step with all those trades is to enter a few years of flipping
This is exactly where I am. and honestly the contracts that would be used to match would actually be kind of helpful on our team, Derek Jones and Bogdanovic could both crack our rotation, and even Brook Lopez could be our third center and provide some spacing. Durant and a future first rounder that has protections to guarantee it’s in the butt end of the lottery(9-14). really just equates to them moving back a few spots in the future year.

My prediction for KD. KD will be shopped and showcased next year. He will fail to get a team interested in him. The following year, he will average 10 minutes or less, and eventually get traded to be used as an expiring contract with a team trying to create cap space. We will pick up a set of role players on the last 2 years of an expiring contract that are fighting hard as hell to get on the court. Probably 2 more seasons of 1st round exits. It’s not a good time to be a Rockets fan.
I think the Warriors would do it. Butler and 11 for KD - they save $11m off their cap and replace a player who can't even play. (The Rockets do have to send out another minimum contract to make the money work, JD Davison works). Looking at the Minny idea, I posted a similar trade a while back accept they keep Randle. They've got $60m ties up between Gobert and Naz Reid - that's a lot of jack at the C spot, KD for Reid, 28 and scraps lets them reset those decisions. Ant, Randle, KD and McDaniels is a potent offensive team .... with Gobert as a backstop. I don't know how I feel about that Detroit deal, they are still playing a fraction of an inch away from the East finals. Maybe if they come up short?
