People like to talk about intelligence and leadership and drive when referring to players we need to acquire, but ignore these traits with respect to Sengun.
Always thought one had to pay for espn's analytics. The best part is Sengun ranks 13th and Amen 20th ( in the Thespian category. Shai is ridiculous at #1. Dude doesn't even work for it. Raspberry award performance out there but the refs reward him like he's Katherine Hepburn, not 1, not 2, not 3, 4 Academy Awards! ) And if you go to the Worst Defenders category and set it at per 100 possessions/ over 90 minutes played in the playoffs, you will have to scroll down 85 names out of 98 to see Alpi's. Just watching a few quarters of Jalen's last game in the PHX series. They kept "hunting" Dillon Brooks and Oso, who were their 2 best defenders available. Brooks would do his best Ben Stiller stuck on sweaty fat guy impression and OSO would be on ice skates for Shai. Same for Duren with Bane and Banchero. Same for every team the Rockets played against when FVV would spam it, sometimes against two of the best defenders at 'guarding' the pick and roll, Jarret allen and Mobley at the same time. Sengun was the 2nd best roll man that 24' season. I miss that action. I've seen this team play without Sengun. The one play they still can't defend? you guessed it correctly. The switch everything lineup forgets to switch on Caleb Love. Game over, blind ref deems your layup unsuccessful.
last time Sengun called a win was the game 7 against the warriors last year and they lost. so this makes me nervous. hope the rockets season doesnt end today.
being kept in check most of the series by the almighty Ayton and Jaxson Hayes is embarrassing AF his offense is throwing up garbage at the rim and then screaming “Ayyyyeee!!!” what a joke
the way this board meat rides this disappointing, overrated “All-Star” is insane How tf are you a big man giving us a measly 20 ppg on 47/13/69 splits and 52% TS against a bottom 10 defense and freaking Ayton and Jaxson Hayes? you would’ve thought he was facing the OKC defense or battling Wemby, but nope, just the Lakers and the almighty Ayton b-b-but he’s the only Rocket aside from Hakeem to average 20, 10, and 5 in a playoff series…literally could not give any less of a fck
But Sengun is respected by some of the best players in the game... well I guess we now know of two who don't (and one of them is on his team)
I don't think Alpi is soft, he is just not very athletic, and when faced with bigger, stronger more athletic players, he looks pedestrian. I think and have always said, he is Luis Scola a very very good role player but not an alpha - he can't do that, and we shouldn't ask him too, he is a super role player. We need to find players that can dribble and create (Hmm...KPJ is available).....and focus on them instead of stagnate 3 and D players. BTW -KD isn't it either. DD
Look I don't care about that at all, or speculation on what happened in an argument - hell we have a ****ing Pedophile in the Whitehouse, all KPJ did was get in a small spat with his girlfriend, he did his counseling and moved on. But, as a dribbler and creator, he is exactly what this team needs, and what IME needs......to unlock others. If not KPJ (and that is fine too) we need his playmaking and creating type. I don't care if get KPJ at all, but his ARCHETYPE as a basketball player is what is missing on this team - the ability to dribble and get anywhere on the floor and create a shot for yourself and others. The rest....spare me the bleeding heart crap, when we have crooks and pedophiles running the country, let's hold them accountable that is imminently more important than an argument between boyfriend and girlfriend. DD
[Murray] Deandre Ayton on Şengün: "That (guy’s) a real All-Star. I’d just say, I altered his shots, contested his shots, tried my best. He made me work. I thought I was making him work; he made my ass work. So yeah, he deserves much respect.”
Well, I get the Luis Scola comparison. Luis Scola never averaged nearly 6 assists a game, though. If or when Sengun is traded (and I'll go with "when" because Stonedoka isn't going anywhere, and Sengun has never been Udoka's flavor of ice cream), then they'd better find a distributor. The Rockets were already lacking a real point guard. And girlfriend-beater KPJ? If you're tapping into the Bucks roster for Giannis, go for Ryan Rollins as well, not KPJ; but I still think Giannis would try to stay in the Eastern Conference.
