I don't want to trade him. That said, would McLean, Benge, Tonge, Senga, and Vientos from the Mets be enough? I thought it would, but got a lot of hate when I said Brown should listen to that.
This is an interesting one for me because of McLean. In the end I would still say "No" because Senga and Vientos have been bad mych of the past year+ including so far this year. If the other 3 players were in the deal but Senga and Vientos were positive WAR and wRC+/ERA+ players I would need to think on it. But the fan in me would be seriously sad.
Not only are they going to trade him at the deadline, they are going to trade him back to the Dodgers. The Dodgers will go on to become the first team ever to win 6 World Series titles in a row, albeit with a $700 payroll, twice as much as anyone else in baseball. And MLB literally doesn't care. Nor ESPN and anyone else that is broadcasting MLB games. F*ck Major League Baseball.
If the Astros do trade Yordan, it won't be until the offseason after he crushes the league this year. However, that would remind me of Stanton going to the Yanks for pretty much trash. Starlin Castro was the headliner and he played only 4 more years (last 2 of them injury plagued). Jose Devers played in only 24 MLB games and Jorge Guzman is still recovering from chronic whiplash during his 2 inning, 2 HR, 7 walk and 8 ERs for his cup of coffee.
Stanton was more of a salary dump for the Marlins than anything else. Alvarez is on a team friendly contract and has a ton more value
Pena is the most likely one to be traded this season. Yordan, if they do decide to restart fully, will be a winter transaction. He has tremendous value with his cheap contract, so should get a good haul especially if he continues at this mvp pace.
As long as Correa can play SS everyday the rest of the year, trading Pena would be a way to improve this 2026 team in a big way. But if he's traded this early in the season, the return must be at least 2 impact young MLB players, at least 1 a SP, plus additional prospect capital. And a legitimate everyday SS for 2027 would need to be found.
I think the smart move would be to extend Yordan today to a long and generous contract and rebuild the rest of the team around him.
