Should Reed have played more?

Maybe, but when Marcus Smart - Marcus freaking Smart in 2026 - left him behind a screener on that one play, had time to have lunch at the Beverly Hills hotel, have drinks in Santa Monica, and then calmly drain a 3 like he's the spliced offspring of Jesus Shuttlesworth and Jimmy Driftwood, and not Marcus Smart - you knew it was curtains for Reed Sheppard

 

I expected Reed to have a rough series. He's not ready for playoff intensity/physicality (and may not be for a long time, if ever).

But there is hope. Things could change at home and not just for Reed.

Reed gets so lost, he gambles all the time. He is the highest iq dumb player I've ever seen

 

The Rockets record actually improves the more minutes Reed plays in a game. The Rockets were at their best when Reed was getting consistent minutes. Okogie and Tari both have played better off the bench too

Poor shooting happens, it's not even why he got pulled, we know Ime DGAF if a guy go 0-15, Ime just doesn't trust him on defense, unfairly so because Holiday was out there getting burnt as well. Poor shooting is whatever, it happens to even the best, doesn't mean anything at all. What Reed does is allow KD an outlet to pass to and also lessens the chances KD stands there to take a double team where he throws the ball away.

Reed played 10 minutes tonight with a positive +/-, so not sure how we can blame him for any of this. He wasn't in the game long enough to even negatively impact it, and as the post above shows, he was part of good lineups that made a run that we of course never see again lol.

I love how guys dig through Luke Kennard or Marcus Smarts shots to find the 1-2 scored on a guy that played less than 10 minutes but can't find **** about the rest of hte team that played like garbage

Bias is a terrible thing, maybe people need to use the 82 game sample size to their benegit instead of following their biased eyes.

The best recourse is to trade him, there is a non-merit hire of a coach who cut his starting PG's minutes for no reason after the miami game, benched him and now plays him in 1 minute spurs for 10 minutes and then a cohort of fans furiously look up "oH lOok hE gOt beAt HuRR On ThIs PlAy" (while lebron and co were getting wide open dunks all game)

Nobody is saying sheppard had a good game by any means, I ragged on him. But its always funny to see the bias

 

You will be hard pressed to find a fanbase that would give a young player that has played an integral part on the team and showed tons of flashes and has unequivocally made the team much better when given extended minutes less grace. I honestly cannot explain it

We’re not winning the championship anyway. Let him learn the hard way. Unfortunately that’s the best lineup to score against all good teams this year.

 

That recovery on Smart was bad and there were one or two bad defensive possessions when we got switched on to Kennard.

But on the whole spacing and ballhandling was best when he was in the game. He was 0 for 4 but his shot didn't look "off" tonight and two were about a half inch from dropping in where I think he'd have found a rhythm with a couple more attempts. He should've played more, at least given the alternatives.
