Judging by the length and the quality start we are not used to as of late, felt like a no hitter to me! Way to go Spencer!
Pherw! No clue why that guy swung at the first two pitches after Abreu walked the previous hitter with 4 straight pitches, but I'll take it!
So does Abreu have some sort of injury or issue he’s not sharing. Guys don’t just lose 2-3 mph on their fastball, loose all control, and get barreled up all of a sudden in the middle of their prime.
I have seen him hit 97 ish this year, but never over the plate, it is weird, I think it is in his head, my guess is the new challenge system has changed the game for the pitchers, and swung it towards the hitters a bit and the pitchers that used to get more free swinging in the box, are now going to have to learn to throw a much higher percentage of strikes. Saying that he just skipped in a 95mph fasball off the dish....just ****ing throw STRIKES ...make em hit it. He has always struggled with control though. DD
He has contract year yips. It's all about the money and he is pooping his pants trying to earn that contract.
If Abreu can find his location on his fastball again, he could turn back into his old self. Seems as of late he's been terrified to even throw a fastball, but tonight he's doing a better job of locating it, setting up his slider perfectly. Great inning for Abreu!
What is the point of Yanier at the moment? He still isn’t hitting and he’s not remotely competitive keeping runners from stealing. Right now, I’d give Vasquez 3 atarts and Yanier 2.
