Apparently you need pitching to compete in the MLB

Having another premium talent like Framber Valdez leave for nothing is now the Astros tried and true formula for gutting Luhnow's brilliance.

Burrows doesn't have the movement on his fastball to be that guy.

McCullers got casual fans in a tizzy but we know it's next to impossible for him to be an impact SP who can give you 180+ innings.

Talent is needed. You have to bring in the big guns.

Trevor Bauer is available and pitching in America. Falsely accused by an internet hoohaa, who provoked him into rough but consensual relations as she has done many times (all documented on text) and looked for a payday out of it. We are no longer in the times of witch hunts based on a single persons emotions -- the facts show he's innocent.

Management needs to grow a spine and make the call.

Simple solution. Stop with the service time manipulation. Call up Arrighetti and Ullola.

Bauer... has nothing left once he stopped scuffing the ball. And team chemistry matters.

Said this before the season, this team is heading for a barely .500 record the way it is now. But many here thought our pitching was our strength. Don't understand how.

I triple checked, and this is correct.

Bauer ain't it. Then again, I wanted Ranger Suarez and early returns from Boston aren't great on him either.

F*ck Trevor Bauer into the sun, and there were multiple accusers. You are referring to the absence of a criminal conviction, but he was still suspended for over a season based on an independent MLB investigation. Imagine looking at the astros, and TB is where your head goes. The world is a crazy place.

If it wasn't for Osuna, I would be for bringing in Bauer.

Now, give me Giolito and bring up Arrighetti. Plus add a quality reliever.

I still think Blubaugh should be the closer until Hader makes it back. Espada doesn't have a clue when it comes to managing a pitching staff.

    1) Bauers is now 35 and hasn't pitched in MLB for 5 years.

    2) He has had exactly 1 season of over 12 wins.

    3) He had a 4.41 ERA in Japan last year.

    4) He hasn't thrown 150+ innings since 2023 and hasn't in MLB since 2019.

    5) He hated the Astros - insulting and talking **** about them long before any accusations came out against him.

Personally I would feel dirty and ashamed if my Astros signed him, but even if character isn't considered it would be a stupid desperate move from a baseball perspective as well.

I prefer Arrighetti, Ullola, Alexander, and Gordon. I prefer several of the AA guys.

Hell I prefer Roy Oswalt or Roger Clemens. Did Nolan ever fix his elbow?

I'm all for fixing the problems and calling guys up, but Ullola walked 6.2 per 9 last season in AAA and Spaghetti had a 5.35 ERA with the Stros. He's also already 29. I don't think these are the heroes who will save our season.

I do think Javier's leash might be one more game before he's replaced in the rotation. I wonder if Teng could go 4 in a spot start.

Arrighetti will get a chance to prove he is 1/5 of the answer.

I believe in him: If he stays healthy: 75% at least a BOR arm who can consistently get 5 innings which is a huge need for this team.

I also think there is a 50% chance that, given health, he could move up and be a 150 inning #3.

Furthermore, I think there is still a 15-20% chance he can become a 175 inning #2.

you do realize that not paying to keep FA stars while also not trading them was one of Luhnow's defining characteristics, right?

0% chance Luhnow would have traded Framber, or given him the deal he was looking for.

Luhnow always felt like he was good enough and smart enough to win without yielding and he was usually right.

I’d look into trading for Kyle Freeland. Last year of contract. Era around 4 last year away from Colorado. Stuff is okay for a #4 starter that would likely eat up some innings. Salary is at $12.9million which is where Javier is this year

stros have given up 64 runs in 97 innings (yanks 22/80, braves 28/97 as comparisons). very early, but still staggering

Always knew OP was slow but still wanting Trevor Bauer in 2026 tells me I underestimated his stupidity.

    Salary (~13M) matches last year's WAR (1.4).

Kyle Freeland is 32 years old. I suspect that the Rockies will ask for a premium for a Freeland trade. Would the Astros be willing to give up a top 5 and a top10 prospect? I would hate that trade, since I want the Astros to keep their prospects.
