Theo Wold @RealTheoWold 20h A neat little trick here from Talarico and Colbert Federal law since 1932 has required broadcast media to give equal time to competing political candidates, but Colbert wanted to platform only Talarico and not his other opponents. So, he interviews Talarico but releases the video only online. Everyone who sees it thinks it aired on the show, Colbert doesn't have to give equal time, and since he has virtually no TV viewers anyway, he still reaches his maximum audience. Meanwhile, Talarico falsely claims that he's being censored and gets free publicity two weeks out from his primary election by claiming that almost a century of federal law is somehow President Trump's fault. An ingenious way of getting around the law indeed...
CBS Radio News is no more come May. They had a good 99-year run only to die at the hands of a billionaire and culture warriors put in charge of the news.
Since I spend a lot of time driving across the rural Western US, I probably listen to more stations that have CBS News than the average person. I'm a weirdo though, as I like to listen to local community radio stations whenever I get the chance. One of the best ones, I think, is from the Warm Springs Reservation (not CBS): https://kwso.org/
you listen to AM radio? but i think the salient point is you're a weirdo who counts on the radio for news. most people do not. like NPR, it's an outdated business model.
https://www.hollywoodintoto.com/vince-vaughn-late-night-tv-agenda/ Von says late-night TV shows limited their potential targets to a select few, including the obvious ones as well as “white redneck kind of people.” “The podcasts have gotten so much more popular with less production, less writers and less staff,” Vaughn said. “People want authenticity. And the talk shows, to a large part, became really agenda-based.” Raw, unplanned banter is missing on too many broadcast shows, they argued. “People rejected it because it didn’t feel authentic. It felt like they had an agenda. It stopped being funny, and it started feeling like I was in a f***ing class I didn’t want to take,” Vaugn added, noting the subsequent ratings droop across the late-night landscape wasn’t an accident. “I’m getting scolded.” “They always blame technology, but the reality is the approach,” Vaughn said, advocating for live stand-up performances which offer a funnier, more surprising experience. A lack of spontaneity is all too obvious in today’s late-night landscape, he argued. “They all became the same show. And they all became so about their politics and who’s good and who’s bad. Imagine sitting next to someone like that on a f***ing plane. You’d be like, ‘how do I get out of this f***ing seat?’” “I would fart right next to them,” Von quipped.
Since all the MAGA's are so interested in Colbert: https://variety.com/2026/film/news/lord-of-the-rings-movie-stephen-colbert-warner-bros-1236698684/ I'm guessing since Colbert is writing it, and LOTR is now woke lib garbage you gotta root for Sauron on this one to own the libs.
Why would you give someone with zero track record writing films control of one of the most valuable IPs in history? Because he's a "superfan"? Sheer idiocy.
My guy, in many western states, if you don't have Sat Radio, you're listening to AM. By posting that, you might as well tell the world you have never been to Denio, NV or Burgess Junction, WY or Fredonia, AZ. And no, I don't count on the radio as the primary source for all my news, but some folks in those communities do.
Colbert added that he developed the idea with his screenwriter son, Peter McGee, and pitched it to Jackson about two years ago. At the time, he didn't think he would have time to work on the movie, but that has changed after the cancellation of "The Late Show" on CBS.
Looking forward to Colbert's shitty LoTR "Sauron is Trump" allegory. Thing will bomb harder than Rings of Power (if thats even possible).
Peter Jackson did a great job with the LOTR trilogy. And I'll accept the Hobbit. But I am not interested in seeing any more of this franchise developed.
On strangers with Candy he was really funny. He was also great on the Daily show as a correspondent. He just ended up going too hard into politics and his comedy suffered because of it. Both he and Kimmel were funny at one time. Sure some lefties will still say they’re still funny. The jokes don’t offend me it just sounds like whining and complaining. Like some break room echo chamber at some dumb job. And before anyone comes at me, I don’t like right leaning political comedians either. Total cringe. In fact, I don’t really know too many of those. None are getting network primetime talk show gigs that’s for sure.
Bro - we elected a President with zero experience. We have political appointments with zero credible experience- destroying this country, but you are concerned about LOTR?
I’m assuming a lot of eyes have reviewed this script Colbert and his son have written. If it’s trash I’m not sure why Hollywood would invest in it and hire a director to take the project on especially knowing that it’ll get review bombed by right wing incels online who worship Trump and stay up all night spewing hate at a comedian. I for one didn’t care for the hobbit trilogy and season 1 of ROP didn’t land for me even though season 2 I think was decent. If there’s a good story left to tell and it can provide a nice escape for people for a couple hours I have no problem with Hollywood making this one. At this point I don’t think LOTR is a sacred cow. I just don’t want to see the main trilogy remade because the original still holds up and should for many years.
