ignoring Clutch’s post and going by the thread title alone, I can say with confidence that Giannis for Sengun is now confirmed
I agree with Ime. But, he should have said it’s not JUST about this season. We still have a lot of young developing players, so our best chance at a championship is in the future. I view the KD experiment as just a way to make things somewhat interesting in the short term. Losing both Adams and Fred kinda killed this season, but we do still have the future to look forward to. We have young players and draft picks, so we have options moving forward. I expect the Rockets to run it back next season, but then we move into the next phase.
Tari's struggles and DFS being garbage have made it pretty clear we could have used another guard off the bench if the cost was only second round picks. Somebody like a moderate upgrade over Holiday/Okogie could have salvaged some of these close losses, and could be the difference between winning and losing a playoff game and potentially the series. I understand not wanting to take minutes away from Reed, but I think the minutes could have come from Okogie, Holiday, and Tate, and maybe a few from Tari, because let's be honest, he was atrocious for pretty much the entire calendar month until last night.
I don't disagree with that at all .... but the reality is, I don't think there was a deal to be had for just 2nd's, mainly because of salary matching issues. The teams that made trades sent out expiring contracts along with multiple 2nd round picks. Below is what the guards traded at the deadline brought in exchange. Dosunmu $7,518,518 - Rob Dillingham, Leonard Miller, and four second-round picks (Dillingham isn't expiring but is still a decent prospect under team options) Alvarado $4,500,000 - Dalen Terry, two second-round picks, and cash. White $12,888,889 - Collin Sexton, Ousmane Dieng, and three future second-round picks. The only deal the Rockets actually could have made happen without adding either DFS as the primary salary or Tari plus a salary is the Alvarado deal. Just Tari was enough salary. At the time, most were saying Tari for Alvarado wasn't good trade value. Maybe in hindsight Stone shoulda pull the trigger on that one .... maybe not, have to wait for the offseason to see how that works out. The math didn't work with Tari and a minimum for Dosunmu - they'd be left with 2 open roster spots and no money to fill that last mandatory spot And in the case of White it wasn't enough money - it took Tari and one of Reed / Amen (Capela's salary fell short and after Adams injury, you weren't moving him). You damn sure weren't doing Tari and one of Amen / Reed for White. Even posting a trade like that in the random thread would get you tarred, feathered and run out of town .... or called a bot. The only thing that worked out salary wise was DFS. DFS + 2nds isn't the same as expiring's (Or Dillingham) + 2nds. Moving DFS cost you a #1 at the very least.
This is the way, but Ime will never move from Fred and Stevo and KD. I would be surprised if that’s not the team’s big 3 in his mind. I’m increasingly convinced he sees Rockets as a stepping stone, and all he cares about is taking whatever roster he can put together here in a short timeframe to conference semifinals or finals once or twice, so that he can jump ship to a stacked team.
My question for Ime and Stone is “why make these comments to the media?”. It’s the most obvious cover my ass strategy I think I’ve ever seen.
Somehow this is what they have told Tillman.....and he probably agrees....... I just hope we don't panic and do anything crazy to build around a 38 year old declining player. DD
That makes perfect sense. Traded for a 37 year old KD. Resigned old and washed FVV and played old Adams big minutes. I certainly see where he's coming from about it not being about this season.
Absolutely agree. In fact, as much as this roster needs re-balancing, I’ve become a run it back guy, because I don’t want my franchise’s future gutted by this moron coach(GM) and his two boyfriends (Stone, FVV).
Stone and Ime both want the role of Tad Brown. Just a shadow lurker but without the spotlight and accountability.
FVV will be 33 Durant will be 38 Capela and Adams will be 32 and 33. There is definitely youth too… Reed, Jabari and Amen. I honestly think they want it both ways and as a consequence may not get it either way. I hope to be wrong.
